Laura receives a friend request from her classmate Marina Mills. Noticing she has no friends, she accepts and the two begin a relationship as friends, but she is uncomfortable with Marina's obsessive behavior and sees that her Facebook profile is full of negative posts. Marina wants to attend Laura's birthday dinner but Laura lies and says only she and Tyler are going out. That night, Marina sees pictures of Laura and her friends on Facebook, and angrily confronts her the next day. During their quarrel, Laura accidentally reveals Marina's bald spot, a result of hair pulling disorder. She then unfriends Marina on Facebook.

If you've been a Facebook user for a while, then you probably have a folder full of unread messages that you didn't even know existed: the Message Requests folder. This is where Facebook sends all the missives from people you're not currently friends with. It could be filled with old high school flings reaching out or a bunch of Nigerian spammers. Who knows? Only one way to find out!
What about all the people you asked to be your friend who ignored or deleted your request? Facebook keeps track of that. Go to facebook.com/friends/requests(Opens in a new window) for a list of the people who hate you. Or maybe they just don't check Facebook that much. Probably both.
Everyone on Facebook will die. Eventually. In anticipation of this unavoidable truth, Facebook lets you name a legacy contact(Opens in a new window) who will manage your account after you are gone. Your legacy contact can write a pinned post for your profile, respond to new friend requests that come after you have passed, and update your profile and cover photo (in case your final image is you in an ironic SpongeBob Halloween costume). They can even download your Facebook data, minus any messages you sent/received.
One could say that it doesn't disappoint, although one would also have to lower the bar of expectations to say that in a way that possesses any significance. Director Simon Verhoeven dutifully gives us multiple jump scares, in which an arm violently enters into frame or a face is suddenly in complete close-up on the screen. This is what the movie promises from the start, so there must be at least a few points awarded for truth in advertising, I suppose.
The angle is that the supernatural killer is the spirit of a college girl named Marina (Liesl Ahlers), who committed suicide after Laura unfriended her on the safe-from-claims-of-copyright-infringement website. In Laura's defense, we learn from a lengthy, sort-of flashback that Marina was a cyber-stalker, who commented on every one of her posts, sent her repeated video chat requests, and started following her around in real life. Against Laura is the fact that Marina's own social networking profile was filled with clues about an unstable personality, such as unsettling photos of mangled faces and a video of someone stomping on a doll's head. Laura might have figured that out if she had scrolled down to the "See older posts" part of the page.
Facebook can be a wonderful place full of opportunities to learn new things, share the special moments in your life and reconnect with old friends. But there is also a dark side to this popular social media platform: It can be a hotbed for Facebook scams, fraud, misinformation and disinformation.
Each Facebook user can send at most 1,000 sent requests. If you have pending friend requests Facebook reach one thousand, after you send the 1,001 friend request, the first (oldest) FB friend request will be removed automatically.
Everyone has a wide range of Facebook friends. Anywhere from your sister, to that girl you graduated with but never really talked to, to the guy you chatted with at the bar last weekend. Sometimes you get a friend request from someone you barely know and think to yourself, "It's weird that they looked me up." Or, "How did they know my last name?" But other times you take the first step and click that "Add Friend" button. (Haven't you always wondered how the ads on your newsfeed are weirdly accurate? This is how you can turn them off.)
After a couple weeks go by and they still haven't accepted your friend request, you may think it's weird, but typically people just forget that they even sent one in the first place. Now you're probably wondering how many of your friend requests have been left ignored, just floating in cyber space. (By the way, this is what your social media profile says about you.)
Well, it's actually pretty simple to find who's left you hanging. There's also a way to see who unfollowed you. Go to the Facebook home screen and click on the friends icon in the upper right hand corner. Then hit "Find Friends." There you will see all of the people waiting for you to accept their friend requests. But, if you hit the tiny "View Sent Requests" button at the top of the page, you can find out who's rejected you.
The list typically tends to be made up of people who don't use their Facebook anymore, or someone you creepily stalked and friend requested way too early on in the relationship and scared off. If you want to cancel your request (not that it matters because they have probably been ignoring you for three years) you can do that by clicking on the "Friend Request Sent" button next to their name. This feature can also be helpful when you're scrolling through your newsfeed on your phone and your thumb slips and hits the "Add Friend" button from someone on your list of suggested friends that you don't even know.
Tips: To get the Friend Bar to show up, it is best to long tap on the friend's avatar.Update v9.2.8.g: You can visit your friends' restaurants without going back to your own restaurant. When you are at a friend's restaurant, above the Return Home button there is now a Visit button which will show the full friend list.
In short, because verified account users are now more easily discovered through Facebook search, it's easier for bots scraping through Facebook search to discover and send those users friend requests.
Notably, Facebook has over 2 billion users and a small portion of that userbase is verified. As such, for most Facebook users, the changes made to Facebook search shouldn't result in a sudden surge of friend requests from seemingly fake accounts.
Fear the Walking Dead (opens in new tab)'s Alycia Debnam-Carey (opens in new tab) stars as Laura, a pretty, popular college student who accepts a misfit loner's friend request on Facebook but finds her new virtual pal too needy and stalker-like in real life.
