Monster Energy put together a promotional YouTube video that used a remix (the "Megamix") of Beastie Boys songs created by DJ Z-Trip (a/k/a Zach Sciacca). The Beastie Boys were surprised to learn about the video because they hadn't authorized Monster Energy to use their music, so they sued Monster Energy for copyright infringement. Caught in flagrante delicto, Monster Energy countered that Z-Trip had authorized them to use the Megamix--including, by implication, the remixed Beastie Boys songs--so Monster Energy cross-sued Z-Trip for breach of contract for falsely implying he could authorize use of the Beastie Boy songs, basically trying to obligate Z-Trip to pay any copyright damages Monster Energy may owe to the Beastie Boys.

Z-Trip allegedly replied that he had made a remix available on his website and it could be downloaded for free.
